If you want to TRUST a dog food, stick to the only three companies that:
- have every formula created by board-certified Veterinary Nutritionists
- maintain a consistent, "fixed" formula, no matter what ingredient prices do on the market
- maintain animal feeding centers where the formulas are fed to actual dogs and cats with regular exams and blood tests to see how the food affects the animals
- manufacture their own foods, so they have real quality controls on ingredients, process, and finished product
This means Hills, Royal Canin, and Purina. Anyone can make up a recipe that sounds good, hire some slick graphic designers and marketing people, contract manufacture to one of several contract pet food factories in North America, and provide marketing spiffs to pet store personnel for selling their diets.
There is a reason that most veterinary practices recommend these companies.
