What is the safe dosage of Xylitol for dogs?

Xylitol is a non-sugar sweetener that is creeping into all kinds of products. One reason it is used in sugar-free gum and toothpaste is its proven beneficial effect on oral health… in people. It is being added to many products now in addition to other sweeteners. It is common in baked products because its cooking properties are similar to sugar in taste, texture, and quantity. It has even appeared in at least two peanut butters.

While Xylitol has not been demonstrated to be harmful to people, dogs and cats cannot process it, and it can be fatal.

We recommend all pet owners avoid giving their pets any amount of xylitol.
