I have watched veterinarians cry with their clients as they compassionately help the patient to stop suffering. It is an honor to help these patients that the doctor has often known for years, sometimes since they were kittens and puppies.

If a veterinarian seems to feel nothing, that doctor may be the victim of compassion fatigue, or may appear unaffected while fighting inside to not fall apart.
