Forget marketing. Forget internet advice. Ask the experts, veterinary researchers who study fleas. Yep, there are several DVMs who study fleas for a living.
For both safety and effectiveness, they recommend prescription oral products such as Program, Comfortis, Nexguard, Simparica, Credelio, and Bravecto. Or prescription topicals Revolution Plus Feline, Bravecto feline.
With two exceptions, topical products are pesticides. You are exposing your pet and your family to tiny amounts of pesticides constantly. Yes, they are tested to be safe, but we think that about many pesticides that later are proven harmful. The exceptions are Bravecto feline, and Revolution. These two are medications (not pesticides) that are applied topically but absorb into the body.
The prescription products are tested against FDA safety standards, which are much more stringent than the EPA standards for pesticides.
Want a “natural” product? I have been advising our clients for 35 years, and watching the flea battle evolve. Natural products are NOT tested against ANY safety standards. The word “natural” on a label even has zero legal definition. These products are also not tested for safety in any way.
