It’s as hard as becoming an MD. At least you don’t have to do a residency if heading into general practice, but on the other hand, you have to learn every species. If you plan to work with dogs and cats, or equine only, great. You still get to learn about sheep, goats, cows, pigs, reptiles, birds, etc. In 2021, honeybees were added as another species for veterinarians to help. There are many applicants per opening in the veterinary schools, so make sure you get excellent grades in undergrad.
The good news is that there are a ton of jobs once you earn your degree and get that first year of experience.
