The first two commands I teach my dogs are “out of the kitchen” (obvious), and “Hoover” (I dropped something and please come eat it).
The dogs quickly learn that the cutting board being pulled out means dropped food, but they also learn to stand just outside the kitchen, not underfoot. The combination sound of the cutting board sliding out with a “Whoops!” brings them running.
If you practice basic sanitation in your kitchen, you should be fine.
