Please call us. Don’t sit at home or work wondering how your pet is doing. Don’t expect us to be finished, or even started, as doctors usually want all their surgery patients dropped off early, then they decide that morning the order of procedures, especially once they assess any unplanned needs, such as pre-op blood tests and IV catheter difficulties.
Sometimes an emergency comes in, delaying the whole surgery schedule. Other times, the doctor or nurse decides your pet may need more time to settle down from the trip in. An excited pet’s adrenaline can override the anesthetics, so we sometimes need to give a sedative and wait before proceeding.
Call and inquire. At best, we can inform you surgery just finished and everything went perfectly. At worst, we can tell you that your pet is still waiting, and is resting comfortably.
