We have people bring in found pets at least monthly at my veterinary practice. We scan every one, and when it has a microchip, we are easily able to locate the pet’s owner. It’s always amusing when the person denies their dog is missing.
“Mrs. Smith, a Good Samaritan just brought your dog into our clinic.”
“She’s in the backyard.”
“Please go check.”
“Oops, I’ll be right there to get her.”
We see a lot of happy people reunited with their pets.
