The state of Oregon has a short list of “Minimum Standards for Veterinary Hospitals”. It is approximately 8 pages. AAHA-accredited veterinary hospitals volunteer (and pay) to be evaluated on approximately 950 standards of veterinary excellence in order to become accredited. AAHA-accredited hospitals are recognized among the finest in the industry, and are consistently at the forefront of advanced veterinary medicine. The Standards of Accreditation are continuously reviewed and updated to keep accredited practices on the cutting edge of veterinary excellence. Standards address patient care and pain management, surgery, pharmacy, laboratory, exam facilities, medical records, cleanliness, emergency services, dental care, diagnostic imaging, anesthesiology, and continuing education.
Accreditation by the American Animal Hospital Association is the only way to ensure that a veterinary practice is operating at the highest standards of excellence in animal care.
